Former Scouts Salute Malc

24 Hours, from Brook Road to Brownsea Island

A group of former Scouts (now leaders, Explorers and friends of the group) are marking the anniversary of Malcolm Matthews joining the group with an all-day/night hike from Gordon Hall, via Ferny Crofts, to the Memorial stone at Brownsea Island.

Malcolm was an inspiration to all who knew him, and the Group thinks that he'd approve of the plan to raise money for his chosen charity (The Piam Brown Ward at Southampton General Hospital) by hiking across the South.

The hiking team will be joined by well-wishers on their journey for several legs, with the team having the added challenge of taking the Group's metal flagpole. They'll be stopping every hour, on the hour, to raise the pole and hoist the flag.

You can keep up-to date with our challenge by following our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter feeds. And, if you can, please consider donating through our Just Giving page.

The stints you can join them for are:

  • Sat 9am - 'Strong Start' - Take the short first steps from the Gordon Hall to Bitterne Station
  • Sat 12:30pm - 'East Forest' - Join us at Redbridge Station through to Ferny Crofts in the New Forest. It'll take around 4/5hours, come prepared!
  • Sat 5pm - 'West Forest' - Join us from Ferny Crofts as we head to Brockenhurst, bring a torch!
  • Sun 10am - Brownsea Island - Cheer us in and join us on the lovely Brownsea Island, we'll be sharing some memories of Malc as we finish our trek!

You must contact the organiser to join us on any of these legs.
